Make Your Family Part Of Our Family
Travis Pointe is a member-owned private country club located fifteen minutes from downtown Ann Arbor and five minutes from downtown Saline. Our amenities – championship golf course, indoor and outdoor tennis, indoor and outdoor pools, fitness center, pickleball courts, and both informal and formal dining – create an inviting atmosphere that blends comfortable traditions with dynamic programs and contemporary facilities.
Travis Pointe offers something for everyone -- families, couples and singles. Ask any of our members what appeals to them most about Travis Pointe and they're likely to tell you it's the pride in belonging to a special place and the camaraderie they feel from day one. It’s easy to see why so many have decided Travis Pointe is the right choice for their family.
Rich In History
Before Travis Pointe Country Club was built, this beautiful area was known as Omega Farms. Land-owners Connie and Cliff Simmons had a vision of developing one of the premier country clubs in Michigan, and in June of 1976, construction began. Some of our ponds came from removing the dirt and using it to give the appearance the clubhouse was built on a hill. Others were dug to create the terrain for the golf course and the roads. Even throughout the occasional interior renovation, the original structure of the building has been preserved and has changed very little since its completion.
In September 1977, the Clubhouse opened and we held our first Men’s Invitational on 9 holes, with the greatest challenge being the dirt and rocks of all sizes throughout the 9 holes! Bill Newcomb, the golf course designer, is a well-respected golf course architect on a national level, and he continues to visit as the golf course master plan consultant. The clubhouse architect, Bill Farrand, was also the first President, having been appointed by the Simmons to oversee their vision.
When the club opened, there was a Doe Room and a Stag Room. In the original layout of the Club, the area known as family dining was named the Sandtrap Lounge. The Grille Room area was the deck and the Men’s Locker Room was in the area of the current bar. The Ballroom was the main dining area, where men were required to wear jackets at all times. Extra dark green jackets were kept in the coat closet, just in case someone forgot.
Mike Johns was the first elected President, followed by Jay Knutsen, who served the last several months of his term as President of the "member-owned Club." George Lindstrom was the first President elected under the new member-owned structure and he and the Board quickly began the process of developing plans for the Club's first major renovation.
The longevity of our staff, some with close to 30 years and a few with more than 10 years, speaks to the quality of our staff and membership. Of the original membership, 80 families were still members at the time of the Club’s 25th Anniversary in 2002 and 13 of our former 20 Presidents are still members. Today, it’s exciting to see growth in Legacy memberships, with second generation families now joining the Travis Pointe family.
