The story of Travis Pointe Country Club begins in 1969, when Connie and Cliff Simmons purchased the property, then known as Omega Farms. At the time, the land was primarily open farmland. Together with their son David, the family envisioned transforming the property into a premier country club that would serve as a gathering place for generations.
That vision began to take shape in June of 1976, when construction officially started. Just over a year later, in September 1977, the Clubhouse opened its doors. Architect Bill Farrand, who helped bring the Simmons family’s vision to life, also served as the Club’s first President.
David Simmons played a central role throughout this journey, leading the development of the property and overseeing the Club’s early operations. Under his guidance, Travis Pointe grew from an ambitious idea into a thriving club community.
In 1987, the Simmons family completed a pivotal transition, selling the Club to its members and establishing the member-owned structure that defines Travis Pointe today. Mike Johns became the first elected President, followed by Jay Knutsen, who served the last several months of his term as President of the “member-owned Club.” George Lindstrom then became the first President elected fully under the member-owned model.
Today, Travis Pointe Country Club remains proudly member-owned, continuing the legacy of its founders while evolving to meet the needs of a vibrant and connected membership.
Over the years, Travis Pointe has earned the reputation of being a first-class championship venue. To its credit, the Club has played host to the LPGA Volvik Championship, and numerous tournaments, including the EPSON Tour, the Michigan Amateur Championship, the US Mid-Amateur Qualifying, and numerous US Open and US Senior Open qualifiers.
The Club’s unique combination of time-honored tradition and modern facilities allows TPCC members and their guests to enjoy superior experiences in a friendly and gracious atmosphere.
